Boiler companies associated with the plywood industry have devised the strategy to consume agricultural waste (stubble) instead of wood to tackle one of the most burning problems of air pollution at present. Plywood Manufacturers in Punjab have also suggested that parali (stubble) can be used as the apt raw material in agro based boilers instead of wood.
Following the initiative, Mr Rajiv Gupta, Director, Sunrise Panel, Yamunanagar, Haryana articulated that he has made huge investment to develop agro based boilers, “Being an engineer himself, I realised that boiler companies can make apt use of agricultural waste (parali) in a way to benefit both environment and plywood industry. In order to consolidate the idea, we have also engaged many farmers in this initiative, directing them to make padded rolls of the stubble at their fields so that they can be stocked easily, “he asserted.
He also informed that this move will also increase the income of farmers apart from curbing the most glaring problem of air pollution at present, therefore considering the initiative is in the best interest of farmers, industry and environment.
However, there is one challenge in getting on with this idea which concerns with procuring and stocking of this highly inflammable agricultural waste material, it is advised that government should intervene by proving the insurance to industry stakeholders who are undertaking the task of stocking the stubble waste to be used for the consumption of Agro based boilers.
Mr Rajiv Gupta has also written to the District Collector in his region addressing the concern of providing insurance to the stockists so that Agro based boiler manufacturers remain at ease while running their operation on agricultural residue.
