The surface of Plywood products will play an important role in sustainable growth post QCO because the other alternate panels have been offering a smooth surface than plywood. OEMs and applicators prefer smooth and fine surface panels with zero thickness variation, and they are looking for such panels. Hence, the Plywood sector should think to apply good quality face veneer for making plywood. On the contrary, under the new BIS standard, the use of face veneer is not mandatory; hence what is the way forward!
It is fact that under new BIS era, the production of genuine IS 710 materials would be tougher, because the availability of raw materials (Core Veneer) and the process of production will need more care, so many industry may not prefer to produce IS 710, and this situation they will have to more focus to produce high quality IS 303 material which has come under BWP grade now. It means the supply of BWP grade IS 303 will increase and industry is compelled to use high quality face veneer on plywood. In the new era, Industry may surrender their IS 710 licence to beware from compliances of BIS, and they would take fresh license, once they assure to produce right quality as per standard norms.
Industry has been witnessing a big drop in face veneer quality since the past 10 years, because a large section of manufacturers have shifted to use D quality face veneer. Hence, with mandatory calibration facility, the plywood manufacturers should improve the quality of face veneer, and they have to adopt increasing face veneer input cost, to offer good quality products in new era, although it is not mandatory in new BIS standard, but the touch and feel are important to sustain further.
