Huntsman Corporation, a global leader in specialty chemicals, is set to unveil two groundbreaking biobased I-BOND® resins designed for composite wood products at LIGNA 2025.
The new bio-based products, I-BOND® PB BIO 1025 resin for particleboard (PB) and I-BOND® OSB BIO 1025 resin for oriented strand board (OSB), feature up to 25% renewable content. Developed specifically to support composite wood manufacturers in significantly reducing their products’ environmental impact, these resins promise to lower carbon footprints by up to 30%, compared to traditional technologies, according to preliminary lifecycle assessment studies conducted by Huntsman.
Bart Singulé, Sales Manager for Composite Wood Products Europe at Huntsman, emphasized the significance of the launch, stating: “Our new bio-based resins mark a significant advancement in composite wood production, aligning closely with industry sustainability goals. By maximizing renewable content without sacrificing quality or performance, these products offer manufacturers a seamless transition towards more sustainable production processes.”
Huntsman’s bio-based resins are notable not only for their environmental benefits but also for their technical performance. Designed to align seamlessly with existing manufacturing processes, the resins maintain the strength, durability, and moisture resistance necessary for high-quality composite wood products widely utilized in furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and interior paneling.
Moreover, these resins uphold stringent environmental and safety standards by containing no added formaldehyde, thereby fostering safer working conditions and healthier indoor air quality. Their versatility makes them ideal solutions for manufacturers aiming to comply with increasingly stringent emission standards and consumer demands for more sustainable and environmentally friendly products.
