Plywood Industry Raises Concern Over Fake BIS Practices

Wednesday, 04 June 2025

As per the reports from the Plywood and Wood Panel industry, there are multiple instances of stop marking noticed by the stakeholders without any prior information about the failure of the sample.

One of the many things that concern the industry in the QCO adoption process is the need to establish a reliable sample drawing procedure as many industry stakeholders are displeased with calls of imposters, pretending to be BIS officials who are demanding large sums of money to clear their samples in testing.

As per the reports from the Plywood and Wood Panel industry, there are multiple instances of stop marking noticed by the stakeholders without any prior information about the failure of the sample. Some also reported to have received the threats of licence cancellation or stop marking which has made many producers anxious of factory closure.

In the last couple of weeks, Ply Reporter has also received multiple messages from many industry people, reporting the fake calls, haranguing the industry.

Industry association has written to the BIS, requesting to bring more transparency and reliability in the sample drawing procedure, they claim that the intricacies in the sample guidelines should be made simple and the number of drawn samples should be reduced, else it will discourage the stakeholders in adopting the QCO in full spirit.

Apart from this, the industry has also complained about the lack of workforce and infrastructure in the BIS to put a noose on these problematic and unlawful miscreants. Industry association has also requested to set up a dedicated team of officials to check such malpractices in the interest of consolidating their trust on BIS operations.
