Imported Birch plywood from European countries is steadily getting regular demand in India, with more overseas suppliers acquiring the BIS licences. The plywood is navigated through different ports to showrooms for high end customers. Birch timber based plywood is mainly imported from Russia and other European markets.
As per Store owners, this plywood range has drawn the attention of architects and interior designers in metros and other big cities as their refined and smooth finish appeals to high-end plywood users.
By the end of 2025, imports of Russian birch plywood into India faced challenges following BIS Quality Control Orders that required mandatory ISI certification, affecting import orders from November 2024 onward. While demand for premium, calibrated birch plywood remains high among architects and OEMs, importers. But now, with an increase in the number of overseas BIS licensees, the supply of Birch ply has picked the momentum again.
Its calibrated feature is very useful when it comes to overlaying new polishes in machines or processing it with the help of modern furniture making machines. At OEM making of kitchens, furniture, wardrobes, shutters etc are increasingly being preferred to be made with such plywood.
