Plywood manufacturing units in the South are more affected due to lower numbers of workers at factories. A number of units from these areas are unable to move dispatches and orders due to manpower shortage.

The scarcity of workers in the wood based panel industry has again started affecting the plywood production nationwide. According to reports from different regions, the net production in the Plywood Industry is impacted due to a 30-40% shortage of workforce and helpers.

The yearly phenomenon of the seasonal migration can be seen in Yamuna Nagar and Punjab, Delhi-NCR, and remaining Northern India region. The reports from various regions suggest that labourers have gone to their native places to undertake multiple personnel. It is known that the plywood and panel industry employ a large number of workforces from Bihar, West Bengal, UP and Odisha.

As per ground reports, plywood manufacturing units in the South are more affected due to lower numbers of workers at factories. A number of units from these areas are unable to move dispatches and orders due to manpower shortage.

The labour contractors are said to be resuming workers' partial returns from June onwards because it is like a celebration time for them apart from the occasional vacation from the regular work to indulge in other social and vocational activities.

To mitigate this recurrent problem, Plywood industries are adopting automation and modern machines with better layout to overcome the crisis since the past 5 - 6 years yet the plywood sector still needs a huge manpower. It is anticipated that the workers will return to factories by mid-June and the production will seamlessly begin by the end of June.
