In the decorative laminate segment, High Pressure Laminate (HPL) is leading the growth. The consumption of decorative laminates is a large market. 0f these, the major share is taken by laminates of thickness of below 1mm, although 1 mm and 1.25 mm exhibits a significant potential of enhancing its market share, given the product is thoroughly and aggressively presented before interior designers and users.
The Indian laminate market has observed a growing trend of various 1.25mm Acrylic and PVC laminates, which is widely accepted into the market. It's a fact that the Acrylic laminate market has been growing every month for the last couple of years owing to the demand from interior designers, contractors and 0EMs. The market consumption trends indicate that both acrylic & PVC laminates collectively amount to approximately almost 2-3 % of laminate market size which is certainly extending a significant opportunity for1.25 mm decorative laminates. Market also indicates that prices of all 3 categories of decorative laminates fall under similar price brackets (10% more or less), but the volume of 1.25mm HPL merely amounted to one fifth as compared to other decorative laminate products.
Lately around a dozen decorative laminate brands have introduced 1.25mm laminates but except Royale Touche or a few, none could pose significant presence in this particular segment. Many decorative brands are reported to have been trying hard to cater the 1.25mm market but only in vain as they shift their focus back to 1mm. One key factor that is largely expressed is need of numerous display centers like that of Royale Touche, across the nook and corner of the country, to present 1.25mm effectively but reality is different as I feel 1.25 mm laminate has bright prospect seeing its credible features and various application usages are credibly and properly presented to convince the customers over 1 mm thickness. The Key factor is 1.25 mm laminate is a designer product, kind of concept rather than just a product thus designer community chooses to buy such products on properties and applications basis instead of thickness.
