To raise awareness about the menace of single use plastic and discourage its use Sharon Plywoods, in association with the Airports Authority of India, conducted a campaign at the Chennai Airport on November 04, 2018 and distributed gift hampers consisting of plastic-free grocery shopping bags, biodegradable cutlery, and clay diyas to 1000 passengers who arrived on the day. Mr PK Srivastava, General Manager (OPS), and Mr. Nanda Kumar DGM (OPS), Airports Authority of India, Chennai, inaugurated the campaign. The shopping bags given to the passenger with pockets to sort purchases, are environmentally friendly alternatives to the thin plastic covers and carry bags which get discarded after a single-use. Another 5000 passengers received cloth tote bags that could be used for shopping or storage.
The activity was received with enthusiasm by the travellers and for that they appreciated for the initiative of the company. Sharon Plywoods has undertaken several initiatives in their fight against Single-Use Plastic. Another initiative in this regard happened on the auspicious day of Vijayadasami (Oct 19, 2018) when 1650 students of Madanlal Khemani Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu were given *Plastic Free School Bag Kits which was contained a steel lunch box, a steel water bottle, a steel spoon and a steel fork. Besides, Sharon Plywoods has been distributing paper bags at the entrance to the visitors of Aringnar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur,Tamil Nadu for the past several years. Sharon Plywoods also appeal to join them in the fight against Single-Use Plastic and take the pledge #ISayNoToPlastic.
