Tago Imposes Ban on Timber Exports

Republic of Togo has prohibited the export of sawn timber products in raw or semi-raw form. Based on the report of the Minister of Environment and Forest Resources, the Minister of Economy and Finance and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Local Consumption, the order or decree prohibits on the whole national territory for the said major. All previous provisions contradicting it have been repealed regulating the import, export, reexport and transit of timber forest products, with regard to export.

The Council of Ministers of finance, environment, resource, trade and local consumption has amended the supplementing decree of December 5, 2019 on the powers, organization and operation of the Expropriation Commission (COMEX) and approved the establishment of Strategic Orientation Council whose mission is to improve the tools and strengthen the capacities of the structures dedicated to the promotion of citizenship.

To meet the challenge of sustainable and profitable development for the population, the Government intends to launch a massive reforestation campaign aimed at planting one billion trees over the next ten (10) years. And to preserve this vegetation cover, a series of measures are planned, including a ban on the export of raw or semi-raw wood.
