Extreme Pressure On PVC Board, PVC Mica: PVC Resin Cost Hit Roof

Wednesday, 22 September 2021

All India PVC Laminates Manufacturers Association (AIPLMA) has announced the price hike in PVC laminate by Rs 150 per sheet as per the respective base prices in all series of materials. The WPC/PVC board producers are also implementing the price increase beyond 10%. The manufacturers of PVC/WPC are intended to increase the price of end product due to rising raw material price.

PVC mica players expressed their views to The Ply Reporter i.e ‘keeping in view of substantial jump in raw materials cost e.g PVC resins, additives & other chemicals, apart from 8 fold rise in international freight cost, there is no way left other than passing on the input cost to customers. The PVC film used in PVC laminate sheet has raised bymore than 40.0 % in just 45 days’. The ground reports found that PVC resin price in September first week has touched Rs 150 which was Rs 75 a year ago. The importers spoke to The Ply Reporter on the same and said that ‘people think we are making extra profits but it’s not true, there is no option other than to bear this cost as the price hike is a global scenario’.

Mr. Deepankar Garg, Director, Alstone WPC, said “The product is leading towards Rs 170 for an 18 mm board which was at Rs 100 initially. With an extreme tight budget for furniture segment assigned by the government or private sector in a project, if the product price continuously goes high, how a contractor opt for it if there are lots of other panel products in the market. Currently the situation is making its future very challenging.”

During a discussion with Ply Reporter the industry leaders expressed that with rising input cost the quality are being compromised by some players and the density has reduced to 0.4 that is the reason the customers started to run away from this product because the strength factors, flexibility, screw holding capacity like factors are losing trust. The scenario is affecting those who are weaker on branding and forcing the unorganized players to shut their operations.

Mr. Naresh Garg, Director, Black Cobra Group said that the price of PVC has definitely increased but it did not affect the demand. With rising raw material price we have also increased the price of finished products like WPC/ PVC boards, doors and door frames, etc. That has been observed by the market also. Definitely, the price gap between plywood and WPC/PVC board has widened to the next level that may affect the sales.”
