WPC and PVC Boards manufacturers are currently in deep mess, because they never imagined so much of increase in input cost due to raw materials, which have forced them to be in a soup. As per report, approximately 60% of installed capacity in PVC board category are on standstill because they are not able to sustain the cost due to high input cost. A group of entrepreneurs feel that it was a wrong choice and they have to exit. It is a fact that the present scenario has been indicating in this direction seeing the challenges and margins in these product categories. But, this is not true, or you can say this is one side of the coin, because I feel that the fear of night will be over once the sunlight comes, and in the WPC/PVC Boards category, the light of hope is here
If this industry accepts the real truth, the scenario would be bright. Industry must produce beyond 0.55 density boards, highlight its advantages instead of fighting with Plywood and MDF (because they must understand that Plywood and MDF are also eco-friendly products, which saves lot of timber because these products are made with plantation timbers and add to employment). It also adds income to our farmers and support environment. In-fact PVC and WPC product must focus on its main feature that is waterproof, borer proof and fire proof because India has huge demand of genuine grade these features for making its furniture because Indian atmosphere is prone to these challenges. Industry must learn from the NFC board campaign, which focuses on its design features, mechanical properties and applications.

It is noted that in similar product categories for Doors and Window Frames, the demand has been flourishing despite challenges of raw materials because this product is an eco-friendly option as it replaces wood (Meranti, Mango, Teak and others). In India more than 100 units have been producing PVC Doors and Window Frames, which have been in good demand in retail and projects both. Government is also specifying these products for its projects. Thus, seeing this success, I assure that WPC/PVC Boards will sustain for furniture making despite present challenges if Industry centres on its real features, standards and quality.
