Post pandemic phase, the Indian wood panel industry is taking leaps in many directions, which will show far reaching effects in the coming years. As I mentioned during various Ply Reporter’s online sessions, “The decade 2021-30 starting from 20202 will be remembered as revolutionary for the wood panel industry.”

The year 2022 will mark new dynamics for industry, trade and especially wholesalers. The dynamics of Products, Productivity and Payments are dramatically changing. Can you see the shift? What are the steps you are taking to understand change, adopt change and implement change in our system and processes?

The approach towards buying and selling interior materials is changing. The conventional products will transform according to new needs. For example, ‘Moving towards Calibrated ply from general plywood’, ‘HM+HD grade MDF from general MDF’, ‘High clarity/high definition + consistent quality laminate from average quality mica,’ ‘higher density +better quality WPC instead of general low density PVC boards’ etc. The transition from lower grade to higher quality and consistency will be gaining speed from here on. The terms like ‘Fali plywood’ may not be stressed upon. I can see the rise in acceptance of high quality products.

The new quality trends will impact Production volumes thus productivity and efficiency will be the need for survival. Productivity cannot be achieved without efficiency and manufacturers will learn this lesson.

Shrinking margins coupled with stricter government compliances will make way only for well guided + smart industrial units where productivity will be equally important as production. Time & technology will be used for Efficiency. Efficient Products and Productivity can be achieved if the payment cycle is in line hence the payment discipline will be more important than ever.

The efficiency of money rotation is vital to make any business profitable and sustainable. Wood panel industry is riddled with payment irregularities and quality disputes which is fast changing after covid phase. Healthy Payment behaviour of a party is straightaway fetching him better profits now. Earlier, prices based on payment was a window, open for only big players, but 2021 onwards the option looks open for all. Any buyer whether is having small quantity or big can realise the discount based on his payment behaviour. Payment behaviour will be one of the significant defining factors for the growth of any business.

I can foresee that organised work culture is accelerating in wood panel trade. This decade will be certainly the turning point towards organised work culture.

Stay SAFE, Stay CLEAR, Happy NEW YEAR!
