Mr. A K Ahmed, the chairman of AK Group of Companies, left for his heavenly abode 8th October 2024.

He was a highly respected figure in the plywood industry. His life was marked by a blend of business acumen, philanthropic spirit, and a passion for lifelong learning. Despite having no formal education, he built an empire that not only provided economic growth but also uplifted countless families. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew him, as well as the industry he helped shape.

His philanthropy went beyond financial donations—he was dedicated to creating opportunities for others and ensuring the well-being of society.

Transforming Rubber Wood Waste into a Plywood Powerhouse
Born in the year 1948 to a normal family was eldest of 4 brothers ,started career as labour supplier and contractor and in the year 1984 established the first frame manufacturing unit in Mangalore, In 1989, AK Ahmed established the first wood peeling unit in Perumbavoor, which revolutionized the use of rubber wood. Before this, rubber wood was primarily used for firewood. His innovative approach transformed this underutilized resource into a cornerstone of the plywood industry, turning Perumbavoor into India’s largest plywood manufacturing hub. This industry now provides thousands of jobs and contributes significantly to the local economy.

A Master of Adaptation and Delegation
Despite having no formal education, AK Ahmed had a natural gift for understanding business and finance. His ability to grasp complex calculations and trends made him a force in the industry. He kept himself informed about global business dynamics, including currency exchange rates and commodity prices, ensuring he stayed ahead of the curve. His skill in delegating tasks was equally impressive—he knew exactly who could handle what, empowering his team and maximizing efficiency.

A Devout Family Man
Faith and family were at the heart of AK Ahmed’s life. A devout Muslim, he never missed his daily prayers, and his values of humility and compassion were reflected in both his personal and professional life. He was a dedicated father to his four sons, Niyaz AK, Naushad AK, Nazim AK, and Saji AK, and his three daughters, Hafsa, Rehana, and Dr. Sherin. His wife, Mariyam, was a constant source of support.

Together, the family actively participated in humanitarian work, running charitable activities under the organization HIF, based in Mangalore. His sons-in-law, Mr. Abdul Razak, Mr. Haneef PS, and Arch Mohammed Nisar, were also integral to the family’s efforts. AK Ahmed’s business partners, Dr. Prashant and Mr. Anil, were like family to him.

Strong Family Ties in Business
AK Ahmed had three siblings: AK Hassainar, Late AK Abdul Hameed, and AK Abdul Raheem. He began his business career alongside his brothers in the early stages, highlighting the strong family ties that shaped his professional journey and his collaborative approach to business.
