Domestic PVC Mica and PVC Edge Band Tape producers are feeling some relief due to strong Dollar prices vs Rupee. The sector is very clearly dominated by imported products in specially PVC and edge band categories hence the price have increased for imported supplies.
A North India based PVC Edge band Tape producers said to The Ply Reporter that he has faced tough competition in 0.4 to 0.8 mm tape thickness categories due to cheap import from
China in retail market, but the recent weakening of Rupee against Dollar may give him a chance to gain his market share due to narrowing price gap. It is noted that PVC Edge Band tape is the fastest growing products in India through retail market since last 3-4 years, which has given a way to Indian Entrepreneurs to enter into manufacturing resulting more than 12 establishments are being set in India, and existing units are doubling their capacity in adding more lines.
The PVC Mica producers too are hoping a better chance to increase their market share due to strong dollar vs rupee. Presently imported PVC Mica segment holds major market share that has around half of the Indian market demand. With a total number of 25 PVC brands originating from India firms, Indian PVC laminate market has touched 4.5 lacs sheets every month.
The key importers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore say that ‘Compared to last year the Import of PVC laminates has grown due to rise in acceptance and better-quality material’. The awareness about PVC laminates is growing with each passing day that is why various laminate companies are launching PVC laminate folders every month. But, the importers are worried due to strengthening dollar prices, and said that they have to pass this cost to market for survival.
