Plywood industry is now in comfortable state for procurement of face veneers. In present scenario and what look onwards is, Market has abundant stock of face veneers either from Burma or from Indonesia or from Gabon. The ground reports reflect that there is a mushrooming growth in face veneer trading houses during last 3 - 4 years, which are keeping sufficient stocks in the market. A Punjab based plywood producer says to the Ply Reporter correspondent that earlier they had to keep huge inventories of face veneers in factory because there were very few suppliers and producer, but now it is completely changed. Now, there are large number of suppliers and traders of face veneers available keeping sufficient stock of face at present.
Due to weak lift up, reality demand and payment collection, the plywood production is reportedly down by 40 % , hence the demand of face veneer has also slowed down. Reports from different port found that there is huge shipment of face veneer containers received during February and March month, but the consumption had slowed during these months.
During past one year, around 20 Gabon based Okume face veneer producers have established their own warehouse in India, which are having sufficient stocks now. After improving logistics and supply from Gabon the availability has bulged leading to price corrections. Besides, number of traders are engaged in face veneer business, which having good quantity of stocks of face veneers from Indonesia, Burma, P & G, Soloman, China, Recon etc because the plywood industry is struggling of orders and production dropped by 40%.
At present, the Plywood industry's few varieties in face veneers e.g PQ, Okume, Recon, Makai, Indonesia etc of which PQ and Okume is fast emerging. Now around 75 percent of plywood, board and door manufacturers have shifted to Non - Gurjan face veneer which seems to be finally taken over by two species, PQ from Guyana and Okume from Gabon.
