A meeting of Kandla based Plywood and Veneer Industries held at Timber Bhawan, Kandla and they discussed the situation arising due high prices of imported timber such as Pine, Keruing and Face Veneer along with other issues related to plywood and veneer industries. The members suggested increasing the prices of finished goods with immediate effect due to high input cost.

Mr Navnit Gajjar, President of Kandla Timber Association said that there is a high jump noted in prices of imported timber due to container freight rates. There is a shortage of labour also due to State Election in Assam and West Bengal, along with Holi festival and harvesting season in Bihar and UP.

There are approximately 90 Plywood and Veneer units located in Kutch area, which are mainly, depend on imported timber for its need. The increase of 8 % is the necessity for the survival of plywood manufacturing units thus there is no sign of disagreement on prices increase decision taken by Kandla plywood manufacturers.
