The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has recently notified that under the Amendments to Indian standards, IS 17682 : 2021 on Aluminium Composite Panel (ACP), the last date to obtain mandatory certification has been extended till 22nd March 2025.

This standard is likely to cover the requirements for flat aluminum composite panel (ACP) intended for external applications, such as cladding façades, curtain walls, soffits, canopy and high mast monolith; those intended for internal use, such as partitions, ceilings and column encasement along with fire-retardant AC along with a wide range of properties application.

Earlier, the last date to apply for BIS licence and obtain a valid BIS certification licence was 23rd September 2024 when, the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India had issued an order, making it mandatory for all aluminium products to be used in India, whether manufactured in India or imported from foreign countries, the stakeholders shall mandatorily carry the Standard Mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards under a valid BIS license.

As of now there is no fixed standard in India to ascertain the quality of ACPs. Not a single ACP manufacturing company in India, who has BIS certification as of now. Industry says that even there is no laboratory in India to test the material quality as per standard, hence the DPIIT and BIS should review and assure the right quality parameter consulting with ACP producers.

The standard covers important aspects such as material composition, adhesion, coating, weather resistance and fire protection. This comprehensive evaluation ensures that the products not only comply with regulations but are also safe and reliable for consumers.
