The plywood prices in Malaysia and Indonesia are witnessing a rise during last couple of months due to demand coming from Japan and Korea. The plywood prices are going upward and so far it has been noted a rise of 12-15 % compared to 2017. After a dull phase of 2016-17, the plywood prices are now surging in Japan due to demand from housing segment. According to reports the demand from India, China and other countries are also contributing to price rise.
The Indian decorative plywood manufacturers import hardwood base ply from Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar for pasting decorative flitches. The rise in prices will impact their cost in coming months anticipate decorative producers.
According to ITTO mentioning, Shippers in Malaysia and Indonesia have pushed up FOB prices taking advantage of firming demand in Japan. The Japan Lumber Report says supplies of both domestic and imported plywood are tight and that stocks of thin panels and floor base panels have fallen due to strong demand
