Indian Particle Board industry is ready to add further production capacity withing next 2 years. As number of wood and decorative panel manufacturing companies have been working on cost, investment, license and market growth, many new entrants are eager to join the growth run. Besides, big laminates companies like Merino, Greenlam there are a few others who are aiming for above 500 cbm plants.
A dozen of companies too are working on small size manufacturing plants with nearly 200 to 300 cbm capacity. We are witnessing, many wood panel and plywood companies are acquiring big size land of above 20 acre, and weighing the feasibility of related projects. Once international travel starts, India might add around 2500 to 3000 cbm / day Particle Boards Manufacturing capacity in next two years.

Will there be enough sustainable margins once market gets crowded? Such questions should not be ignored. Maintaining profitability, procuring timber and stable chemical prices remain a challenge for wood panel sector in India. This quarter sales show a significant drop in profitability of PB industry, with a fact that industry is running at its 60% capacity. Concluding the present scenario, the Indian PB capacity addition is a fact but its sustainability remains a question mark!
