In Delhi-NCR region, the Laminate manufacturing units are hit as their manufacturing is almost down by 70-80%. In adjoining areas of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the laminate, veneer and plywood producing units are running for hardly 8 hours because Commission for Air Quality Management has directed the industries to run just 8 hours for five days a week.
According to reports, the HPL manufacturing units are able to utilise its 30% capacity, which is leading to supply shortage of laminates in northern markets. The Ply Reporter estimates observe, Delhi-NCR region contributes to 40 percent of total production in India, which is down to one third and it is happening every year now.
The pioneer brands like Merino, Greenlam etc have also been affected due to the pollution related issue and government curbs. As per reports, Greenlam Industries temporarily closed down manufacturing activities at its plant located in Behror, Rajasthan since 9th December 2021. As per the company's press statement, Greenlam Industries stated that "we would like to bring to your attention that, the facts and reports, based on which the direction have been issued, seems improper and the company has already represented before the competent authority in this regard and is also taking necessary steps to resolve the matter at the earliest."
Laminate producers located in Delhi-NCR say that it is not viable for them to run their plants for just 8 hours because it is a loss-making operation, and government authorities must understand. The manufacturers say, the indusgries including laminate and wood panel units are staring at huge losses every day due to this guideline, and the short supply is adding to money rotation as well as competency in domestic market.
