The price of Particle board has been raised by Rs 5 per sq ft in both the categories wood and bagasse based particle boards. The All India Particle Board Manufacturers Association has issued a letter to the customers and the members of the association dated June 3, 2022, in this regard. The association said in the latter issue that due to the increased cost of nitrogenous chemicals owing to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the industry is under pressure from rising input costs. They said, "It has been unanimously decided by all particle board manufacturers that the rate of particle boards (both wood and bagasse) be increased by Rs.5.00 per sq.ft., with immediate effect."
Commercial grade plywood and block board prices have been increased by the plywood manufacturers across the industry clusters in the country. The plywood associations have announced their respective price rises from 60 paisa to 80 paisa per glue line. The majority of them attributed it to rising material costs, particularly for chemicals and other items, which have increased the cost of production.
At the Kandla Timber Association's meeting in Gandhidham, they announced the price rise on all commercial grade plywood and block board from 1 June by 75 paisa per glue line. The Plywood Manufacturers Associations of Haryana, Uttrakhand, and Punjab held separate meetings on May 28th, 2022 at their respective centres like Yamunanagar, Ramnagar & Ludhiana and announced price increases in their MR/commercial plywood/board and doors to 60, 70, and 75 paisa per glue line, respectively, with immediate effect. They caused it by the rising cost of resin, chemicals, and other raw materials.
The Karnataka Plywood Manufacturers Association also held a meeting at Mangalore and discussed the impact of the increased cost of resin and asked to increase the price by 70 paisa per glue line with effect from June 1, 2022. Accordingly, the prices of various thicknesses of plywood per sq ft will increase as follows. 4mm = 70 paisa; 6mm = 1.40; 8/9mm = 2.10; 12mm = 2.80; 15mm/16mm = Rs 3.50; 18 mm = Rs 4.20 and 19 mm block board = 1.40 per sqft. The associations requested their members and customers to support them with the prevailing market situations and demanded to stand by one another for the survival of the trade.
