Indian Furniture, Kitchen and OEMs industry felt a big hit due to the unexpected rise in prices of Russian birch Plywood in the India Market. As per report, the prices of Birch Plywood have increased more than 50 percent during the last 2-3 months, which is a big hit and bad news for Russian Birch Plywood lovers. During a short interaction with dozens of OEMs and Kitchen Manufacturers, the Ply Reporter correspondent finds that the high prices of birch plywood are not being accepted by them because it has reached beyond their budget
The Plywood retailers say that such a big hike was unexpected, and customers are compelled to shift to good quality Indian Calibrated Plywood or HDHMR boards. Importers say that the ocean freight and price increase in Russia have forced them to increase the prices and it will not come down in another 6 months. They confirm that such a big hike in prices would discourage the demand of Birch Plywood in India Market.
Birch Plywood demand has been slowly growing in the India market for the last 6 years due to its smooth surfaces, Shuttering for building construction, calibrated and looks like a decorative panel for fancy uses. Since last 4 years its demand has been noted to increase majorly in Interior purpose for Kitchen, Wall Panel, Wardrobe and other furniture. Due to its fancy look and calibration in nature, it has attracted many buyers of premium grade interior works and OEMs for kitchen shutters. The growing demand has also attracted a number of plywood traders to invest in Birch Plywood trade business
According to Ply Reporter estimates, India normally requires approximately 250 containers of Plywood from Russia that include Building Construction and Interior Purpose. The fancy of using Birch Plywood has been there in India among the architect led premium segment. Since a few years, preference of calibrated birch plywood has been on the rise due to its premium quality and highly uniform and smooth surface, but the price fluctuation has never allowed the product to settle down with consistency in the India market. Traders feel that if the price of Birch plywood comes down, they are able to increase their volume because it is suitable plywood for many interior applications, which they hardly get from Indian manufacturers.
